The family behind EuroDogTravels
We’re Karen, Carl and Daniel — and Sofus, our small white Coton de Tuléar. We live near Aarhus in Denmark, and in 2026 we spent two months travelling across Poland and home through Germany with Sofus: by plane, by five different train operators, through three cities and a great many apartment keys that didn’t work on the first try.
We didn’t set out to write a guide. We set out to take our dog with us, because leaving him behind never felt like the trip we wanted. But when we tried to plan it, the book we needed didn’t exist — only policy pages full of rules nobody seemed to enforce, contradictory forum threads, and cheerful listicles written by people who, you slowly realised, had never actually done it. So we did it, kept the receipts and the photographs and the mistakes, and wrote everything down.
Karen narrates and writes; she’s a professional linguist with a background in biology from Aarhus University. Carl handles the visual and multimedia side. Daniel is our son and the photographer — most of the real images you’ll see across this site and in the guide are his. And Sofus, who is not a naturally bold dog, is the reason any of it works: he coped not because of his temperament but because of how we learned to handle him. That’s the whole point of what we make here.
How this guide was written
Everything in this guide happened. The three carrier bags, the muzzle we didn’t know we needed, the train journey that went wrong in exactly the way train journeys do — all of it is ours, lived over two months of stations, airports, and apartment keys that didn’t work on the first try.
We use AI as a writing and editing tool, the way other writers use an editor: to help us shape our notes, our photos, and our memories into something readable. But every fact was checked by us, every route was travelled by us, and every mistake was made by us — usually twice. Where a rule or price appears in this guide, it’s because we stood at the counter and dealt with it ourselves, and we note the date we last verified it.
If something in here turns out to be wrong, that’s on us, and we’d genuinely like to know — write to us and we’ll fix it. We stand behind every word, because we were there for every word.
— Karen, Carl, Daniel & Sofus
